The bond in the name.

An ionic bond is two unlike atoms held together by opposite charge — one with something to give, one open to receive, and the bond is the pull between them. That's the whole idea behind the name, and it's drawn right into the mark.

The Ionic wordmark — the O and C drawn as charged atoms joined by a bond line
The O holds its charge · the C reaches for it · the line is the bond

An ionic bond isn't a metaphor I reached for — it's literally how the chemistry works. Two atoms, opposite charges: one holds an electron to give, the other is short one and open to receive. What binds them is the attraction between those complementary states.

For a consultancy that's almost too neat. Client and consultant, held together by complementary needs: you bring what the other lacks, and the value is what flows across the bond. The name says it before a word of explanation does.

It's told in the mark, not decorated by it

So the logo carries the story rather than dressing it up. "IONIC" is set in a bold geometric type — but the O and the C aren't ordinary letters. Their centres are replaced by atoms — a nucleus inside a ring — joined by a fine bond line running nucleus to nucleus.

The O — holding charge

closed ring · warm · positive (+)

A complete atom: a full ring around a warm orange nucleus. Self-contained, with something to give.

The C — reaching for it

open ring · cool · negative (−)

An atom mid-bond: an open ring, its mouth turned toward the O, around a cool teal nucleus. Reaching, open to receive.

One body holding charge, one open to take it, and the line between them is the bond. The warm-against-cool of the two nuclei is also where the whole brand gets its colour: every accent on every Ionic surface is one of those two charges — nothing else.

An ionic bond holds two unlike bodies together through complementary charge. That's the working relationship I aim for: I bring what a programme is missing, and we get more done together than either side would apart.

A system, not just a logo

The bond is the whole kit, not only the mark: the charge palette (warm +, cool −), the lit spherical nuclei, the bond-and-lattice geometry that runs through the backgrounds and dividers. And it scales into a family. Ionic is the group; each division takes one charge as its colour — Consulting is the warm orange, and Labs — this place — is the cool teal. The wordmark's orange-O and teal-C never change; only the division name takes the accent.

Which means the page you're on is, quite literally, the teal — the charge-minus — side of the family. The whole thing is one small idea worn at every scale: two unlike things are worth more bonded than apart. That's the bet the practice is built on.
